Lock bumping uses a specially cut 'bump key' inserted into a pin tumbler lock. A quick tap causes the pins to jump momentarily, letting the plug turn.

Which locks are vulnerable
Standard pin tumbler locks (the vast majority of residential deadbolts) are vulnerable to bumping.
Grade doesn't automatically mean bump-resistant.

Bump-resistant hardware uses specialty pins (spool, mushroom, security pins) or entirely different mechanisms (sidebars, disc-detainer).
Look for hardware explicitly rated bump-resistant.
Beyond bumping
Even a bump-resistant lock can be defeated by other methods (drilling, forced entry). Bumping is one attack vector, not the whole picture.
